"The 39 Steps" at Intiman

Dec 13, 2013 in My photos

Yesterday me and a few other vintage bloggers were invited to see De 39 Stegen (The 39 Steps) at Intiman in Stockholm. I’m a Hitchcock fan and like the movie, so I thought it would be fun to see the stage version!

We got a backstage tour by the costumer before the show started. The tour was really interesting, and the show was pretty great. At times it was a bit too farcical and not really funny, and some subtly misogynistic jokes could have been updated without losing effect, but mostly it was really exciting and funny, and with lots of great and innovative special effects.

The theatre itself was really beautiful inside and out. I didn’t get any good photos of the facade and foyer, but they were really nice, and the foyer staff even wore great classic usher costumes made specifically for this show. It all made for a really nice atmosphere.

I had grand plans for a 30s noir outfit, but my hair did not want to cooperate so I just wore my regular everyday winter clothes instead, and felt really boring. Miriam, who invited us all, was really spy story elegant though!

De 39 Stegen runs until Sunday, so you’ll have to hurry if you want to see it. It was a very entertaining show and I would recommend it!

The other bloggers were Karoline, Caroline and Elsa.

Shoes!

Dec 1, 2013 in My photos

I’ve been thinking of making a blog post about my shoes for a long time, and I finally got around to taking some photos of most of my somewhat fancy shoes. I didn’t include all of my heavy cold weather shoes or super casual shoes and wellies and such.

Jeans from Vivien of Holloway

Nov 26, 2013 in My photos

I also got these 1950s style jeans from Vivien of Holloway, that I’d actually had on my wish list for a while.

I love the way they look, especially the fact that the zipper is on the side, but unfortunately they don’t fit my shape very well. The rise is just too high for me, and the thighs too roomy, resulting in a baggy look both in the front and back. They’d look a lot better on someone with a higher waist than me, and curvier legs.

Vivien of Holloway blouse

Nov 3, 2013 in My photos

This blouse is another of the garments I received from Vivien of Holloway a while ago. I already own one of their peasant blouses in another colour, but I read that they changed the cut a bit, and although I love the old one, this one is a lot better!

The old blouse is great and I wear it all the time in the summer, but it tends to cut into my armpits a bit, which is annoying. This one is perfect, and also has a much nicer, softer fabric. It’s extremely comfortable!

Halloween!

My Halloween costume for this year is Princess Aura, my favourite character from the wonderful Flash Gordon serials. It’s probably the most ambitious Halloween costume I’ve made so far, with props and all.

Extra Halloween costume

Oct 30, 2013 in Halloween and My photos

I’ve been working on quite an ambitious Halloween costume this year, but when my parents brought this playsuit that used to belong to my grandmother, and used to be in our dress up box when we were kids, I realised it looks a lot like those 1920s Halloween costumes you see in fashion prints.

I made some cardboard and crepe paper accessories, and made it an extra, pre-Halloween costume. A sort of 1920s Halloween witch chorus girl.

I have no idea how old this garment actually is, the fabric feels just like t-shirt fabric, but the cut is perfect for a 20s look.
